Therese M. Powers, LAC

Traditional Chinese Medicine was a natural career path for me. Growing up, I had a strong interest in the interdependency between health, the body, and nutrition. My need to understand this relationship and my personal fascination with integrative medicine attracted me to acupuncture in San Luis Obispo

I earned a Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine (MTCM) degree at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, CA â€?a prestigious institution with one of the only nationally- accredited Traditional Chinese Medicine programs in California. My education included a comprehensive curriculum that emphasized clinical training, integrative Western medicine, and the latest TCM research. Additionally, I was accepted into an international training program in Zhejiang, China, where I worked in local hospitals alongside some of the area's most distinguished physicians to treat both common and complex conditions.

During my studies, I chose to narrow my focus and specialize in women's health. I was awarded a highly-competitive three-year clinical apprenticeship with Dr. Maureen Rozenn, an assistant professor at Five Branches with a concentration in women's health and reproductive medicine. Dr. Rozenn is the first female Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in the U.S. to become certified by the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine. Her mentorship provided me with invaluable hands-on experience working with women to treat infertility, pregnancy symptoms, menopause, and various hormonal imbalances.

My practice, SLO Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine, reflects my commitment to holistic health. I combine both Eastern and Western approaches in order to provide you with every tool available to achieve complete wellness. My ultimate goal is to optimize your health so that you can live a fulfilling and balanced life that is free from pain and disease. In addition to acupuncture, I offer nutritional counseling as well as a variety of other Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques, including cupping, Gua Sha, herbal therapy and moxibustion. If you find that Chinese Medicine is not the right fit for you, I am happy to refer you to another healthcare professional or recommend a different treatment modality. Your health is my first priority.

I am very fortunate to be working within the Santa Lucia Birthing Center, which is so well-suited to my tastes and talents. The Center has provided me with a perfect avenue through which I can put my specialized training in women's health into practice. Through the variety of services available, I am also better serve each of you and provide a higher level of patient care.

Melinda Kinkaid, MA, LMFT

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) working with individuals, couples, families, children and teens. I specialize in:

  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Conflict and Communication
  • Mindfulness Practices
  • Expressive Therapies
  • Interrupting and Changing Negative Thought Processes

We are all beautiful. We are all human and have struggles. Discovering and understanding these truths in effort to live a fuller life, is what I can help you to do. Arriving at a place of self-acceptance, strengthening your sense of self, and believing in that power is necessary. Accepting what is, what we control and do not control, and putting action behind that, encourages us to let go of things we waste our valuable energy on.

I believe in your ability to do this. I believe in my ability to help you find, connect to, and utilize this in your life. I can help you explore, process and put action behind your intention.

Some key components are accepting it is a process, confronting ourselves and asserting with others, identifying and creating boundaries, being present with what is emotionally genuine, learning effective communication, and developing realistic tools and strategies in our daily lives.

Do you seek more balance, understanding and freedom in your life and relationships? I provide a safe and supportive environment to help you through difficulties to find a more positive place. Whether we work to develop boundaries, increase self-esteem, decrease destructive patterns, or move past painful life experiences, together we will process what you are going through in order to obtain clarity, solutions, and personal growth. We can create contentment in our present moment and live fully in that moment each day.

I believe in the importance of establishing a therapeutic bond in the working relationship between client and therapist. I work inter-personally in the here and now, combining principals and practices from object relations, family systems, cognitive behavioral and experiential therapies. I also have over 13 years experience of helping children and teens with their personal challenges.

I utilize art therapy, relaxation and mindfulness, as well as practical solution focused approaches. By combining these therapies, we address the whole person & attend to the importance of the mind/body connection in the healing process.

Lindsey Law

I have always enjoyed teaching and nurturing so when I was trying to decide on a career path that fit into my life of motherhood lactation sort of fell into my lap so to speak.

Having my own experience of joy and frustration with breastfeeding I felt I could relate and help fellow mothers with their own challenges.

I attended a lactation consultant program through UC San Diego and completed my clinical hours in the Bay Area including Oakland and San Francisco. I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2011 and have enjoyed helping mothers and babies thrive. Originally from San Luis Obispo I always wanted to return to raise my family. Shortly after finishing school my family and I relocated to the Central Coast.

Each mother baby pair is unique and I believe it is important that they are treated as such.

In addition to offering in office appointments I also offer home visits. We can work together to get you on the road to successful breastfeeding.

Outside my professional life I enjoy raising my two boys, hiking, paddle boarding, swimming, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
